This book, written by David Whitaker and Stella Kloepfel, originated as a series of packets created through a grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The focus was on helping school-age care (SAC) programs in two primary areas - the basics of getting a program started (program initiation) and tips for fine-tuning already functioning programs (program improvement). Included in program initiation are sections on administration, staff development, discipline, health and safety, free time, group time, and activity time. The program improvement part of the book includes sections on family connections, how to create a resource center, school rapport, special needs, older kids, planning with kids, and full day planning. 156 pages. Catalog number: KSBK0995; Price: $16.95.
